SOUL II SOUL

Jazzie B aka Beresford  Romeo, was born in North London.  He co-founded the Soul II Soul sound system in 1982 along with a school friend Philip ‘Daddae’ Harvey.   Although he had worked as a Sound Engineer, the training which built the SIIS hits came from Jazzie’s work as a DJ – in street parties, on illegal radio stations and in London clubs.   Always aware that there was more to life than just playing, Jazzie knew he had something special and a sound to be carried to more than just a room full of people.   After signing to Virgin Records the plan went onto the next stage and saw the birth of the recording group SIIS which went on to become the club and chart success of the 80’s achieving worldwide acclaim for a new and innovative sound making Jazzie B and SIIS household names.   The albums Club Classic’s Vol 1 and 2 contained the hits ‘Keep on Movin’, ‘Back to Life’ and ‘Get A Life’.   it was more than just a style, it was a sound and a way of life, and the man at the centre of the vortex was Jazzie B.

Not content with conquering the world of music Jazzie has always been on the lookout for new projects to be involved with.  The term entrepreneur does not seem to quite sum it all up correctly.  Jazzie has been involved in many diverse projects ranging from being Musical Director  of a musical staged at the South Bank to Radio/TV Presenter and Role Model.

1995 saw the release of the latest Soul II Soul album.   His background is one of teamwork, family and community and those are the values around which he has shaped Soul II Soul.
